Method 1: Confirm that your CD-R or CD-RW is listed in the Hardware Compatibility List (HCL)
See the HCL to make sure that your CD-R drive or your CD-RW drive is compatible with Windows XP. - Right-click the controller that you want to configure DMA/PIO settings for, and then click Properties.
