How to Install HP deskjet 1280 printer in Windows 10 manually using basic driver (.inf driver)

The video tutorial has been made on Windows 10, but you can follow the same step for Windows 7, 8, Vista, Server as well.

Windows 10 doesn’t support (Not compatible) HP deskjet 1280 printer. But we have a basic driver that will work on Windows 10 OS as well. Please watch this video tutorial on how to setupp HP 1280 printer on Windows 10.

HP deskjet 1280 Printer Description:

With the HP deskjet 1280 Printer, you can print on a multitude of media from thick card stock to standard stationary and make glossy photo prints. The printer can hold up to 150 sheets of paper and has a duty cycle of 5,000 pages per month. If you need to alter a document, you can reduce or enlarge it easily by using the printer’s Smart Software.

HP deskjet 1280 driver download and installation guide should be easy to follow when using the wizard. Answer: Sorry to say but there is no driver available for Mac OS version 10.9.5. Not available even on its official download page.
We advise you to use Mac 10.5 version driver for Mac 10.9.5; it should work. If it doesn't work, then you have to update your Mac OS to its latest 10.14 Mojave version. Make sure your printer should be connected and turned ON during the update.

Question: I had my very old, 2004, hp 1280 serial no CN4CK95128 running on my windows 7 64bit acer aspire z5763 but it needed major surgery and repair and needs complete reloading, only the printer to go. Answer: Usually, the Windows 7 get the HP deskjet 1280 drivers automatically from microsoft.com when you connect it. But, if it doesn't work then try the following two methods.

Method 1:

• Step 1.1: Uninstall the printer driver from the device manager and then unplug the USB cable of the printer.
• Step 1.2: Reboot your computer.
• Step 1.3: After boot, connect the printer's USB cable. It should auto install the drivers. If this doesn't work then follow method 2.

Method 2:

• Step 2.1: Download the HP deskjet 1280 basic driver from this download link.

I agree with MichaelPatrickLyons66.

The link posted by Mahesh has a single download available on it for the 'HP Print and Scan Doctor'. This diagnostic tool correctly identifies the my DeskJet 1280 is not installed, but then points back to the exact same download page that it was downloaded from, but there aren't any drivers there!

The question is, why aren't HP supporting this printer (there's no Win7-64bit driver for it either).

That is the question... for HP. :-)
Hardware support always have and likely always will come from the hardware manufacturer themselves - including software and drivers.

The short answer is that the printer in question was deemed legacy AFTER Windows Vista's release. It's old, out-dated and HP replaced it with newer models and are not providing drivers for Windows 7 or Windows 8. You may be able to get it to work with native drivers or drivers for another model or universal drivers. Might even be able to download and install the Vista drivers in compatibility mode. However - HP has abandoned the printer in-as-far as any current operating systems.

I've managed to get the DeskJet 1280 working using the DeskJet 1220c driver, but it's far from ideal as the printing options are limited. If it's a ploy to get me to replace my printer, it might work, but I guarantee it won't ever be an HP again.

If you get another brand - likely you will get the same treatment a few operating systems down the line for it.

People have been complaining about this sort of thing for a long time... Hardware has a limited life if for no other reason than economics. ;-)

I read your solution, and I download de drivers for vista but I can't install them... I have extract it and then nothing happens... I used Xp and I don't know how to do it in Win8... I bought a new laptop 2 days ago and I need to print and I'm getting crazy! ;)

Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Add Printer

When offered the option to use Windows Update, take it because it will greatly expand the amount of printers available which have drivers within the operating system.

When Windows Update has finished expanding the list, it takes a few minutes, go to the HP or Hewlett Packard groups, locate your printer and install it.

Q.. Why isn't HP providing drivers on their own website?

A.. Because HP need to sell new printers now and again, and the only way to do that is to reduce support for printers which have been around for years..
