Hello,

In device manager, please select one of the devices that's not working, right click and go to properties -> Driver -> Driver Details and post a screenshot of that page.
Also, what's the error code you're seeing on the properties page for these devices?
Thanks,

Mark

Error Code 39. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it seems to put the same driver right back.

Thanks!

If you have AI Suite/AI Charger installed, please try uninstalling it.
And a few more questions:

1) I notice that you have the ASMedia USB 3.0 drivers installed, instead of the Microsoft drivers. Was this a clean install of Windows 10, or an upgrade? Did you specifically install those drivers yourself after the upgrade? Not suggesting that you did anything wrong here :) But what I normally see is that the Microsoft drivers would be the ones loaded after the Windows 10 install.

2) In the 'driver file details' window like you pasted above, can you select the usbport line and take another screenshot please? I only need it for one of the controllers.

Thanks,

Mark

Hello Mark,

My Windows 10 install was an upgrade from Windows 7. I don't have AI Suite installed. I believe it was installed prior to the Windows 10 upgrade but I don't see any entry for it under Control Panel, Programs.

I specifically installed the USB 3.0 drivers after all my USB ports went dead. They were all that I could find. I'm only able to type this from this computer because I got those ports working and I have a USB 2.0 hub plugged into one of the 3.0 ports. My USB keyboard and mouse are plugged into the hub.

Here's the other screenshot you requested.

Sorry this has been such a painful experience, glad you found a temporary workaround to get your keyboard working. And I'm sorry I'm bombarding you with questions.

So the screenshot you provided indicates there may be a problem with that Microsoft provided driver (usbport.sys).

Please do the following:

1) Go to C:windowssystem32drivers

2) Right click on usbport.sys -> properties -> details

3) Grab a screenshot of that page.

Enhanced

This will give me info on the date/version of that driver.

Also, please check the following registry key, and let me know if there are any UpperFilters or LowerFilters items listed:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlClass{36fc9e60-c465-11cf-8056-444553540000}

Thanks,

Mark

Hello again,

The 'usbport.sys' driver file appears to only be a placeholder as it doesn't contain any data. Here's the screenshot:

Another online article for fixing this USB issue recommended removing the UpperFilters entry at that location so I did. Here's the screenshot of that section in the registry:

I've rebooted since removing the UpperFilters entry and nothing has changed, so I'm continuing to look into a solution. Thanks for your help with this.

Hello Rakesh,

I tried Method 1 and the issue continued afterwards.

I tried Method 2 and the troubleshooter discovered the problem with the 2 types of drivers and went back and forth asking permission to fix them, which I agreed to, but nothing changed.

I previously tried Method 3 which is where I got the message saying 'The best driver software for your device is already installed'.

The first article didn't provide any new information.

The second article suggested running Windows Update again and I got the following errors. This is a separate issue but maybe it's related.

Thanks for your suggestions and for helping with this.

Hmmm. That usbport issue is unusual. It appears that the file has been corrupted/deleted somehow. I'll need to do more investigation to see how to properly restore it.

As far as the UpperFilters entry, do you happen to recall what data was there before it was deleted?

Have you attempted to uninstall/reinstall the controllers again since making that change? (It's possible that 'method #2' suggested above may have done this, but it can't hurt to try again)

The UpperFilters entry said usbfilter.

As you suggested I just uninstalled all the Host Controllers again and doing a 'Scan for hardware changes' immediately put them all back.
